HOMEWORK POLICY:
Students will be assigned daily homework to reinforce lessons and in-class work. Please keep in mind that the amount of homework your child has depends largely on how well he/she uses their class time. Students will be provided the opportunity to work on assignments after a lesson has been taught. ALL assignments must be written in each student's planner, and parents must check/sign the homework planner each night.
Homework will be collected and turned in during each class subject by the homework monitor at the table. Students who do not have their homework or have incomplete work will be expected to fill out a homework slip that must be signed by the student and parent. Below is an example of the homework slip:

Homework Planners
Students are required to write down their homework in their planners each day. I will review the assignments that must be completed the following day or throughout that week, but it is the students responsibility to write down the assignments themselves. Furthermore, it is your child's responsibility to show you his or her planner each day where you can sign your name under the appropriate section.
Your child should ALWAYS have something written in their planner. Even if they may have finished all their assignments in class, they must ALWAYS write down "read" in their planner since they are required to record their reading progress in their logs as well as complete a reader's report. If their planner is blank, then that means your child did not write down their homework in class. Please write me a quick note to inform me that the planner was blank. If your child does not have their planner signed or if you write me a note telling me it was blank, then they will owe me recess time the next day.

S.T.A.R Binder (Students taking academic responsibility)
![Picture](/uploads/3/2/1/1/32114425/9703310.jpg)
Each student will be responsible for maintaining their individual STAR Binder, a 1-inch or 1 ½-inch 3-ring binder. The STAR Binders will be divided with five folders. Please label the top right hand corner of each folder for the following categories:
(1) Fliers & Important Papers
(2) Homework (left side will be "to do" and right side will be "graded homework")
(3) Behavior Chart (see DISCIPLINE POLICY) (requires daily parent signature)
(4) Reading Log (left side) /Spelling Packet (right side)
(5) Classroom Information/Rules
These STAR Binders are very important for your child to keep track of and take care of because they contain extremely important information and will be a useful tool during Parent-Teacher conferences. Students must bring their STAR Binders to and from school every single day; NO EXCUSES! If a student forgets his/her STAR Binder, an appropriate consequence will occur.

Absent Work Policy
If your child is absent, then please send me an email before the start of the school day. Your child will have an "absent buddy" at their table who is in charge of gathering an extra copy of all materials and assignments for your child. He or she may also check school notes for the assignments as well as check the website for any notes, documents, assignments, or presentations that I have posted under the appropriate subject area tab.
Once your student has collected all the necessary notes, assignments, etc, then they will have the same number of days they were absent to complete all of the work. (Example: If a student is absent for 2 days, they will have 2 days to make up missed work.) If students have any questions about the content of the work they missed, they can ask me questions during an appropriate time.

Late Work Policy
Students are expected to turn in their homework each day to their table's designated "homework collector". If your child did not complete or do the assignment, then they will have to fill out a homework slip that will require a signature. Late assignments may be turned in before the beginning of class the following day, but 3 points will be deducted from the overall grade. Each day they do not complete it, then an additional 3 points will be taken off (Example: If a student takes three days to complete a late assignment, then 9 points will be taken off the overall grade). I will not allow students to redo or make up work after this time. The students need to learn responsibility and will be held accountable for their work and effort.
Grades
Parents can view grades using powerschool (NOTE: Since this is a new system, I will provide you with information as to how to access it as soon as possible). I will enter grades every other day so you can view the your student's areas of growth and success. Students who need additional help are more than welcome to arrive to the classroom around 7:20am or stay after school (Please notify me beforehand). If parents are in need of additional resources to aid the academic growth of your student, feel free to contact me, and I will be more than happy to help.
Parent Signatures
Parent signatures inform me that the students are showing you their S.T.A.R. binders and their homework planners each day. It allows you as a parent to see what is expected of your child academically and behaviorally. Therefore, I expect daily parent signatures on the following:
Parent signatures will also be required on homework and behavior slips.
- Homework planner
- Weekly Behavior Chart
